Ms. Sarah Rougeau

Culinary Arts Innovator

Sarah Rougeau brings a lifelong passion for cooking, creativity, and hands-on learning to her role as a K–8 educator. Her love of culinary arts began in childhood, helping her father cook for community events and learning early on how food brings people together. What started with
Lenten Fish Frys grew into a career dedicated to teaching others, mentoring young cooks, and making the kitchen a welcoming place for everyone. Sarah studied culinary arts at Oakland Community College, in Farmington Hills, Michigan; where she gained a strong foundation in food safety, culinary techniques, and competition-level skills. Throughout her career, she has worked in country clubs, restaurants, bakeries, and large-scale food production. These diverse experiences allow her to connect real-world culinary knowledge with creative, age-appropriate learning for students.

In the classroom, Sarah believes in hands-on exploration, confidence building, and learning through doing. She enjoys helping students discover new ingredients, practice kitchen safety, and understand the science and math behind cooking. Her goal is always to create a positive, encouraging environment where every child feels capable and excited to learn.

Sarah is ServSafe Manager certified and is continuing advanced training in food safety and quality systems, which she uses to model safe, responsible kitchen habits for students. She loves introducing kids to practical skills — from basic knife safety (using age-appropriate tools) to teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.

When she’s not teaching, Sarah enjoys cooking for her family, exploring new recipes, and spending time with her young daughter, who shares her love of food and imagination. She is thrilled to bring her culinary passion and student-centered approach to the K–8 community and looks forward to making learning memorable, meaningful, and fun.
